What to Pack to travel to Palestine? Once you’ve booked flights to Palestine, you will have to consider what to bring. The contents of your luggage depend, of course, on the time of year of travel, the intended activities in Palestine, and the duration of stay.

Easy to buy basic shoes and clothes quite cheaply

Generally speaking, it’s easy to buy basic shoes and clothes quite inexpensively in Palestine, so if you’re looking to travel light, then you shouldn’t have trouble sourcing extra necessities. However, it’s a good idea to bring plenty of basic necessities, since such are likely to be more difficult to find in Palestine than simply driving to your local Tesco or Walmart.

Traveling during the Summer months

If you’re traveling during the Summer months, which last from around May until September when temperatures peak, the weather will be continuously hot and sunny (between 20-35 degrees). Hats, suncream, and sunglasses are a must to protect from the sun, especially if you plan on hiking. It’s also a good idea to pack a sweater or jacket since nights in the mountains and Hebron city itself can be cool.

Also bear in mind that some desert areas of Palestine – including parts of the hot Jordan valley such as Ein Gedi – remain hot throughout the winter months, and you shouldn’t need more than a t-shirt for a Christmas holiday to these parts. Long sleeves, however, are a must when traveling to religious sites, where women will be asked to wear a scarf over their shoulders and, occasionally, also to cover their heads.

Women Clothes?

More generally, when traveling in areas with a majority Palestinian population, women should wear long sleeves and trousers, or a long skirt in order to avoid unwanted attention.

While foreigners are generally and warmly welcomed by residents, it’s important that visitors respect the local culture. Tight or revealing clothing will be counter to this aim.

Men Clothes?

For men traveling in conservative areas such as Hebron though, long sleeves aren’t necessary except perhaps to protect against mosquitos. Trousers, however, are recommended. Sandals for both men and women are generally acceptable, even in conservative religious areas and religious sites.

Traveling during the Winter months

Winter throughout the central, hilly areas of the country, can get quite cold. From November to February, it’s advisable to travel with jumpers and jackets capable of withstanding a general lack of good heating systems in this climate. Rainfall, on the other hand, is slight.

A raincoat is still a good idea, however, if you want something lightweight, warm, and breathable for activities such as hiking. And hiking boots, in turn, are a must to deal with the generally rough terrain on such excursions.

Electrical equipment

For your electrical equipment usage, make sure you bring a three pin adapter, though most sockets also work with two pins (European) plugs. For most education, language and volunteer activities at the Center, we do recommend that you bring your own laptop.
