“During my week and a half volunteering in the Technology program in the city of Hebron, Palestine, I had a truly immersive experience that allowed me to learn the basics of Arabic in a short amount of time. Sharing my technology experience with the students was fulfilling, and I felt that I made a positive impact. However, it’s important to be prepared to adjust to the needs of the students.
I had a lovely Palestinian host family who made me feel like a part of their family and provided a clean, private room for me to stay in. There were always other volunteers and students at the center, which made it easy to organize trips together on our days off.
Before arriving, I had concerns about safety and navigating a new country without language skills. However, these concerns proved to be unnecessary as the city felt safe and I enjoyed exploring the cafes and trying new foods. I recommend staying for a longer period of time, as a week or two is not enough time to experience everything. Also, bring warm clothes if you’re not visiting in the summer.
Overall, I highly recommend this program to others, and suggest coming with an open mind and a hearty appetite for the delicious food!”
