Travelling Alone to Palestine 2018: If you are travelling alone to Palestine there is not much that you have to worry about, however, it helps if you have a clear understanding of where to go and what to do at different times of day. I had very few difficulties (luckily) travelling alone at night to Hebron.

The first confusing experience that I had was when I took a shuttle from the airport in Tel Aviv to the bus station in Jerusalem. There were no more buses in the station bound for Hebron. Luckily several people speak English and were able to guide me to a different bus station where I was able to take a shuttle.

The first thing I realized that was a mistake was waiting to withdraw money for my trip until I got to Tel Aviv since none of the ATMs in the airport and Jerusalem would accept my card (it is a debit card from a credit union).

Luckily, I brought cash (USD) with me which I was able to convert into Shekels at the airport. The next day in Hebron I was very easily able to find an ATM from one of the Arab banks that would work for me. When travelling alone it is a good idea to either have cash or know for certain at which ATMs your card will work. I also recommend planning your arrival to coincide with the bus schedule since the buses tend to be a bit cheaper than the shuttles.

The Excellence Center provides a useful breakdown of prices and time estimates for travel from Tel Aviv to Hebron. It is important to note that it is most economical to travel to Jerusalem before Hebron.

Once you leave Jerusalem, your bus or shuttle may also take you to Bethlehem before Hebron. You will have to ask your shuttle driver for clarification if they will continue to Hebron after Bethlehem. Your bus most likely will not and you will have to take a shuttle or a different bus (depending on time of day) the rest of the way.
