Reasons to visit Palestine in 2019: Palestine is often mentioned in the news however unfortunately due to selective and/or biased reporting of conflict between Israel and Palestine, people often associate Palestine with either violence and hatred or oppression and sadness. But apart from Gaza the rest of Palestine i.e. West Bank is quite safe; and despite the political and social difficulties Palestinians are relaxed, warm natured, graceful and very welcoming to visitors regardless of their religion and ethnicity.
Visiting the Holy Land
Palestine has been and (despite the wars, occupations and ongoing conflict) will remain a holy place to the three major religions. Among its many ancient and biblical places some stand out.
Haram esh-Sharif or Temple Mount also called Dome of Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is the most amazing place. Visiting this majestic and serene structure in the middle of one of the tensest cities in the world is a unique experience especially when you hear adhan over the square.
Visiting the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem one of the holiest sites in Christianity is another must-see site regardless of whether you are religious/ Christian. Once in Bethlehem don’t forget to see Banksy artwork on the wall.
Learning or improving your Arabic
There are many types of Arabic language. Palestinian Arabic is the native language to the Palestinian people; but it also a subgroup of the Levantine Arabic which is spoken in Jordan, Lebanon and most of Syria. Hence learning Palestinian Arabic is very useful if you are considering a future career in the middle east.
Experiencing warm hospitality and good food
Palestinian food is similar to other middle eastern Levantine food which include meat rice and delicious taboon bread. Restaurant dishes are delicious with generous portions.
Supporting the Palestinian people
The Israeli Palestinian conflict like any other conflict in the history will be resolved, but (whatever that solution proves to be) until it materialises Palestinians and their economy have to be supported. By visiting Palestine and help making it a fashionable destination to visit you would provide that support as well as keep the Palestinian cause alive.
