The Human Rights Summer Program 2025 in Palestine Palestine will take place in the summer of 2025. This program is designed to introduce you to Palestinian human rights in a setting that fosters both personal and professional growth. Participants in the Human Rights Volunteer Program will work to raise awareness about the situation in the West Bank and amplify the voices of Palestinian communities. You can interact with NGOs, staff members, law professors, Palestinian students, and human rights activists. The program also includes excursions to refugee camps and human rights organizations. In addition, participants will receive Arabic language lessons to help them begin or further develop their language skills.

The Summer Human Rights Program 2025 in Palestine is scheduled to take place between June 15th and July 6th, 2025.

The Human Rights Summer Program 2025 in Palestine will be held in  Hebron, in the West Bank of Palestine, 30 km south of Jerusalem. It is organized and hosted by the Excellence Center/Engage in Palestine, located on Ein Sarah Street, Street Number 427, in building number 7.

What Is Included In The Summer Program?

If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities in the Middle East over the summer and are interested in Israeli-Palestinian relations, you will find this internship an ideal opportunity to gain relevant experience while learning or improving your Arabic language skills. 

The summer human rights internship in Palestine program is an excellent choice for anybody passionate about human rights and who wants to guarantee that Palestinians can access their fundamental rights. Attending this program will provide vital experience if you’re going to work for nonprofit organizations in a humanitarian or legal role.

Over the three weeks of the program, you will also have the opportunity to study and practice nine hours of Ammiya (Palestinian Arabic) under the instruction of qualified and experienced Palestinian teachers.

Who Can Participate?

The Human Rights Summer Program 2025 is open to students of all levels, native and non-native English speakers, graduate and undergraduate students of Middle Eastern studies, Arabic studies, political sciences, scholars conducting case studies on Palestine and Israel, humanitarian aid workers, professionals, researchers, retirees, and anyone who would like to help and contribute meaningfully to the Palestinian community in the West Bank.

Participants in the summer human rights program must 

Required:

  • Be between 18 and 75 years
  • Ability to converse fluently in English
  • Willing to meet and interact with a diverse spectrum of Palestinian people
  • A desire to learn

Not required:

  • Arabic fluency
  • Travel experience
  • Teaching experience or an equivalent educational degree
  • Being an English native speaker

Summer Human Rights Program 2025 in Palestine Details

1. Structure

    The Human Rights Program is loosely structured into four areas:

    1. Increase your understanding of Palestinian human rights and the political context. 
    2. Create a unique program in collaboration with local activists.
    3. Study Arabic and become acquainted with Palestinian culture and daily life. 
    4. Organize workshops for Palestinian youth, teach English to Palestinian children and refugees, and write articles.

    2. Activities

    Over the three weeks of the program, you will participate in a variety of activities:

    • Visiting various human rights organizations such as the Temporary International Presence in Hebron, Human Rights Defenders, Youth Against the Settlements, and Christian Peacemaker Teams Palestine.
    • Working cooperatively with organizations in Hebron and Ramallah to provide workshops to Palestinian students on human rights allows you to put what you have learned into practice. As part of these workshops, you will be encouraged to share what you have learned, your particular knowledge, and your personal experience.
    • Participating in a variety of training and mentorship programs in the subject of human rights.

    3. Flexibility

      The program will be tailored to your specific knowledge, interests, fields of expertise, and degree of experience. Because we are adaptable, you can design your syllabus and schedule, allowing you to build a curriculum that suits your needs and interests. your curriculum autonomously.

      What You Will Receive During Your Time In Palestine

      Volunteers in the Human Rights Program are eligible for a variety of perks, including:

      • Three hours of Arabic lessons weekly;    
      • Visit Palestinian refugee camps and arrange activities for Palestinian children.
      • Gain expertise by working with nonprofits, humanitarian and human rights law firms, NGOs, and other charitable organizations.
      • Visits to human rights organizations in Palestine.
      • Meetings with human rights activists, laborers, law professors, students, and NGOs
      • Exposure to everyday life in Hebron,  Palestinian culture and society.
      • Accommodation is arranged through a Palestinian host family or our shared apartment facility (host family is unavailable for males).
      • The chance to experience traditional Palestinian dishes and desserts.
      • Palestinian cultural nights with entertainment and activities
      • There are opportunities to visit unique tourist attractions with a native point of view, including Bethlehem, Ramallah, Nablus, Tulkarm, Qalqilyah, Jenin, and the Dead Sea in Jericho.
      • You can visit nearby cities as well as those in Jordan, including Akko, Herzliya, Beersheva, Eilat, Tiberias, Netanya, Safed, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Masada, Amman, Aqaba, Wadi Rum, and Nazareth.
      • Arabic teachers who are well-qualified, attentive, and have a great educational background are ready and willing to assist you.

      Two accommodation options are provided by The Excellence Center in Palestine 

      1. Shared Apartment

        Our modern, cozy, and fully equipped shared apartment is just a 5-minute walk from the Center. Designed for comfort and convenience, it offers a welcoming space for interns to relax and unwind after a productive day.

        2. Palestinian Host Family

          For those staying with a Palestinian host family, the experience offers a deep immersion into Palestinian culture, with opportunities to engage in family activities, attend local cultural events, and interact with the welcoming community of Hebron. This option allows interns to enhance their Arabic skills while gaining a unique insight into Palestinian home life and traditions.

          For cultural reasons, only women can participate in the homestay option.

          Visits To Local Palestinian Organizations

          The Excellence Center in Palestine will organize visits to various local organizations working in human rights. This will enable you to decide what activities to develop and present during your workshops. Your meetings with local organizations will also help you better understand the state of human rights in the West Bank.

          The program begins with an overview of the Geneva Convention and international law surrounding human rights. You will then learn how these international accords are being violated in Palestine.

          You will visit the United Nations Headquarters in Hebron and other significant institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). You will also visit Hebron and the surrounding regions to interview municipal authorities, community leaders, legislators, business owners, employees, teachers, and university students to learn more about how these violations occur.

          What Activities Can Be Organized When Volunteering?

          There are several activities appropriate for all levels in the program that you may participate in during your stay, including:

          • Educating Palestinian school and university students about fundamental rights
          • Visiting UN buildings and Human Rights NGO Headquarters
          • Visiting Palestinian refugee camps in and around Hebron.
          • Writing human rights essays with an emphasis on Palestine and Gaza
          • Studying International Human Rights laws
          • Creating a catalog of NGOs and describing and analyzing their impact on human rights violations across the world

          And might include:

          • Collaboration with journalist project students to create a short documentary
          • Other activities (We happily encourage suggestions)
