“My main motivation is to teach English to the people of Hebron. Proficiency in a second language is always a healthy asset, but in most countries around the world it is also a vital skill on the labour market. Because of its international aspect, English also allows messages to spread effectively. This means that for the Palestinians it’s an important tool to make the situation in Palestine known to people all over the world. It’s a great privilege to be able to contribute towards this in cooperation with the Excellence Center.
By teaching English I can also develop some skills of my own. The main skill being teaching. I’m very interested in modern, immersive and engaging teaching methods and I’m happy that these kind of methods are what the Center is aiming for. I’ll also be able to work with very varied classrooms – one-on-one classes, medium-sized and larger classes, high school students, adults, and so forth. In other words, this opportunity allows me to get used to various teaching experiences.
The final reason why I came here is out of pure interest. Reading about Palestine or following the situation on the news and social media is one thing, but if you really want to understand a country you have to experience it for yourself”.
