Modern Standard or dialect?

Modern Standard or dialect? a very good questions! This is an important distinction you need to be clear about in your mind. Modern Standard Arabic is the Arabic spoken on TV, news stations and in news papers – it is the more official form of the language and is generally considered more difficult. If you are interested in working in a professional capacity like law or journalism, this is the form of the language you will need to learn .

However, if you are more interested in speaking Arabic with locals, then the local dialect (Colloquial Arabic) will be of more use to you. You can learn both in parallel but it is usually advisable to focus on why you’re learning the language and then adjust your focus accordingly.
